Biostatistical Expertise
Excellence in biostatistics is a core strength at NERI, which employs one of the largest and most seasoned statistical groups in the Northeast. These talented biostatisticians offer an unmatched breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of clinical research study design, data analysis, and results interpretation. All NERI statisticians have graduate degrees in statistics or biostatistics and over half have doctoral degrees.
NERI statisticians are knowledgeable collaborators and work well with clinicians, epidemiologists, and other researchers on study design and implementation, including sample size and power calculations and analysis plan development. They advise on the sample selection, design of data collection instruments, data quality control, and data management. They implement the statistical analysis and write up the results including contributing actively to report and manuscript writing.
NERI statisticians also have extensive experience in designing, analyzing, and reporting single- and multi-center clinical trials, cluster-unit trials and epidemiological studies, both cohort and case-control.
Other areas of NERI biostatistical expertise:
- Statistical methods for complex sample surveys
- Reliability and validity assessment
- Mixed-model analysis
- Methods for categorical data analysis.
NERI retains the services of internationally respected clinical trials statistician Dr. Stuart Pocock of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. As a Consultant Chief Scientist, Dr. Pocock provides additional expertise to NERI statisticians and is in residence six times annually.
